Weather Station

The weather station on Government Point in Wabana Lake was installed in the autumn of 2022. It consists of a certified and traceable set of weather sensors manufactured by Onset corp coupled with a data logger that transmits information in realtime via 4g cellular signals. Sensors include temperature, pressure, humidity, wind speed, wind direction, and water temperature at 0.5 meters or about 1.5 feet of depth. We hope to add monitors of light intensity and UV radiation in 2023. The station is powered by solar recharge of an onboard battery. Further, we installed a surveillance camera (also on 4g with solar power) to keep visual track of ambient conditions. We are alerted to motion at the site as well as rapidly changing weather conditions.

We download photos and videos from the weather station site irregularly and post them below. So far, the cost of operation of a remote, full-time webcam setup is prohibitive because of data transmission costs. We are working on a solution to this problem.
